GENIUS: The Elizabeth Swann is an archaeologist's dream ship, fully equipped to map underwater features and ocean life, and store that information in the world's largest DNA collection. In the picture above, the giant humpback whale swims alongside the autonomous ship with the best navigation, and the smartest AI systems in the world. The Elizabeth Swann may be the fastest (solar assisted) hydrogen powered ship in the world, but has a bit more up her sleeve.
The other attraction for industrial spies (military and medical), like the Novus Illuminatum scientists in this story, is the onboard DNA database - that has taken John Storm much of his young, and all of his adult life to collect. This is called the ARK. It is a secure server that is protected from would be data theft. A time capsule snapshot of almost all life on earth.
The system of analyzing and storing DNA data, is reversible, and may be mixed and matched, using a special digital biological interface. By this means, life may be recreated from the encoded samples. In addition, life may be enhanced. With suitable super computing power, DNA may be genetically modified. This is especially important when working with CRISPR viruses. The CRISPR virus is a delivery system that allows the DNA of already formed adult subjects to be modified as small changes to their genome, rather than cloning or replicating them afresh with a custom blueprint.
The ARK is John Storm's hobby, about which he is passionate to the point of obsession. The system was designed by his genius uncle, Douglas Storm, with modifications, hardware upgrades and software applications by Dan Hawk.
The Swann has an inbuilt AI, named Hal, to defend the ship, her crew and the data that is stored safely onboard. All protected by Merlin, the intelligent weapons system.
Hal and Captain Nemo work together. For example, the Swann has an array of underwater sensors to enable the ship to survey the ocean floor, and detect objects in the sea, including flora, fauna and marine litter. This is another of the Swann's useful features, especially as John Storm is an adventurer, who is interested in sunken civilizations. Innerspace, being his favorite exploration medium. The Elizabeth Swann is more than capable of taking care of itself, including anti-piracy measures, that can make life very difficult for intruders, including stunning them, by way of a method of arresting suspected pirates, assassins or thieves.
In helping John and his crew detect underwater relic plundering, the Swann's comprehensive electronic companions, are invaluable to law enforcement agencies, such Blue Shield. Provided they can talk John into working with them.
